ASP Preparation phase
All ASP students must attend 1 ASP preparatory seminar in addition to the ASP lecture. Regular, active participation in an ASP preparatory seminar in module prx102 is a prerequisite for being able to complete the practical phase at all. Please note that in module prx102 active participation is required!
The ASP preparatory courses only take place in the summer semester ; no ASP preparatory courses are offered in the winter semester!

How do I register for an ASP preparation seminar?
You usually register for an ASP preparation seminar in the same way as for your other seminars - via stud.IP. Enter "prx102" in the search field to get an overview of all ASP preparatory seminars in the respective session and register. Each ASP preparatory seminar usually has a maximum of 20 participants; if you are on the waiting list, participation in the seminar is not guaranteed. Therefore, make sure you secure a place in a seminar in good time - because without an ASP preparatory seminar, there is no internship!
What is covered in the ASP preparation seminar?
The teachers of the ASP preparation seminars have a wide variety of backgrounds - some of them have been working in internship preparation for some time, others (so-called "lecturers") still work regularly as teachers at schools. Accordingly, the seminar design may also vary, as teachers may set different priorities or the composition of the students may require a different content orientation. However, there are some mandatory seminar contents that must be addressed in all ASP preparation seminars in order to ensure a relatively standardised preparation of all ASP trainees:
Becoming a teacher
- My role as an intern
- Teacher vs. intern role
- (Core) tasks of teachers
Teaching and learning requirements
- KMK requirements: Core curricula and educational standards
- Competences and learning objectives
- Prerequisites of the learning group / initial learning situation
Lesson observation
- Lesson planning
- Observing lessons - but how?
- Teaching phases
Core pedagogical practices in the classroom
- Teaching methods
- Motivation in the classroom
- Differentiation in the classroom
- (Digital) media & digitalisation
- Dealing with classroom disruptions / classroom management techniques
What is the "reflection session"?
If possible, the reflection session should take place at a time when most of the seminar participants have already started or completed their practical phase. The reflection session should serve to initiate reflection - also with regard to the ASP portfolio - and to enable exchange among students. The reflection session can take place online or hybrid and in the afternoon/evening, depending on the teacher's planning.
Special case seminars / block seminars
In each ASP cycle, ASP preparation seminars are usually offered as block seminars; however, these are aimed exclusively at"special cases". Only those who are unable to attend an ASP preparatory seminar on a weekly basis and thus fulfil the active participation requirement are considered special cases - and for a comprehensible reason, for example studying abroad or a compulsory stay abroad in the summer semester / illness or hospitalisation / pregnancy or parental leave / etc. Please bear in mind that the special case status should possibly also be claimed if you would "only" be absent from the seminar 2-3 times (e.g. due to a stay abroad starting in July or parental leave ending in May)! If you are a special case, please contact the lecturers of the block seminars directly (you can see who these are in the courses on stud.IP) with your reasons and a request to be included in the seminar. Please remember that you must submit proof of your special case status (e.g. a medical certificate) by the beginning of the block seminar at the latest. If you are not sure whether you are a special case, please contact directly and describe your case. However, it should be noted in advance that, for example, holidays at the time of the weekly seminars or overlaps with other seminars are not considered prerequisites for special case status - it also does not matter whether you are completing your practical phase at a school in Germany or abroad, as long as your weekly participation in the seminar is guaranteed.
