FAQ on the general school internship
General questions about the internship
Can I have previous teaching activities recognised/credited as an internship?
You can find all information on the topic of "Recognition" here.
Questions about the ASP preparation seminars
I am unable to attend during the lecture period due to a semester abroad, illness, ... and cannot attend the ASP preparatory seminar or cannot attend it in full - what now?
For students who are unable to attend the ASP preparatory seminar during the summer semester and are therefore unable to attend the entire period, there is the option of attending a block seminar. Please contact us directly at: .
Questions about the practical phase
Do I have to go to the internship school every day during the practical phase?
Yes, the core period of the work placement is 5 weeks. In addition, there are preparatory and follow-up visits to the school; this results in a total internship period of 6 weeks. Interns must be present at school every day during the five-week internship (25 hours at school = 5 days of 5 hours each)!
I am abroad at the time of the internship phase (or have another important reason why I cannot complete the internship in Aug/Sept/Oct) - when can I complete the practical phase?
Students who are unable to complete the regular internship period, e.g. due to a semester abroad, will be given the opportunity to start the internship at another time (e.g. during the lecture-free period in the following spring). It is therefore extremely important that you inform both the diz and the teacher of your ASP preparatory seminar in good time!
I am unexpectedly unable to start the internship - what now?
If you are unable to start your school internship, you must inform the internship school, the diz and the teacher of the ASP preparatory seminar! If you have not cancelled with all three parties and there are no valid reasons for your cancellation, you may have to repeat the ASP preparatory seminar next year and can only complete the internship after that. If you unexpectedly fall ill for a longer period of time and are therefore unable to complete the internship, please also inform the internship school, the DiZ and the teacher of the ASP preparatory seminar. If you can present a medical certificate, it is usually possible to repeat the internship, e.g. in the following spring.
I am absent for a short time during the practical phase - e.g. due to illness or an important exam. What should I do?
If you are absent for a short time during the practical phase, e.g. because you have fallen ill or have to take an important exam, it is ultimately up to your internship school to decide how to deal with this. First of all, it goes without saying that you should notify the school's Office in good time if you are ill; if contact details are available, you should also inform teachers who would have supported you on the day in question in good time. You may have to make up the missed work placement days (which is highly recommended after a certain period of illness), submit a medical certificate or provide other evidence. As far as university obligations (such as examinations or compulsory excursions) are concerned, you are strongly advised to only attend these if there is no other option. However, excursions lasting several days in particular should be avoided or the missed days must be added to the practical phase in any case; however, this can be extremely difficult due to the limited core internship period (between the summer and autumn holidays), and interrupting the internship is not recommended! You do not need to submit a sick note/certificate to your ASP seminar supervisor!

Questions about the ASP portfolio/exam performance
How do I register for the examination?
You usually register for the examination at the beginning of the summer semester. Registration takes place via stud.ip. You will find out all the details about exam registration (registration period, type of examination, examiner) in the first lecture. Please only register for the examination that is explicitly mentioned in the lecture. It may be that there are still examinations for the second attempt from the previous round for which you have not registered!
What if I have forgotten to register for the examination?
If you have not registered in time for the examination (via Stud.IP), you will not be assigned a school and you will not be able to take the ASP in this round (also applies to self-seekers!). Please note that you will have to register again for the ASP at the DiZ for the next round.
Does the teaching material I have used belong in the portfolio?
Please do not add any specific teaching material to the portfolio - if your lesson is difficult to follow without the material or if you would like to show the material to your ASP teacher, consider saving it as files/photos/screenshots in a cloud and refer to a link (which you create via the cloud file) in the planning grid, which the ASP teacher can then access.
Do I have to use scientific sources in the portfolio?
In contrast to other written work in your degree programme, the ASP portfolio does not focus on academic work; however, this examination should of course also serve to introduce you to academic work. You should therefore take care to substantiate your observations and descriptions, e.g. with the help of the literature used in the seminar and/or further literature, and to justify them from a scientific point of view. Of course, you must also cite your sources and quote them correctly.
What if I suddenly fall ill and cannot hand in the portfolio on time?
In principle, the processing time for the portfolio is quite long, which is why deadline extensions are generally not necessary. However, if a short-term illness prevents you from submitting the portfolio on time, please send a medical certificate to your ASP teacher. They will then inform you of your new submission date.
