The specialist work consultation always takes place from January to March. You will find more detailed information on registration shortly beforehand on this page.
Outside of these hours, the staff at the Central Information Desk will be happy to advise you on site or by telephone regarding
- Registration for a library card,
- Searching for literature in ORBISplus and in the specialised databases,
- Finding books and journals on the shelves,
- using the PC workstations to retrieve and save e-books and articles from e-journals.

What does the counselling on specialist work involve?
- We support you in your literature search for your thesis topic and give you an initial orientation. Take a look at our research protocol to help you prepare. An important point for the research is the right search terms.
- We provide assistance with literature searches in ORBISplus, on the Internet and in the specialised databases relevant to your topic.
- We provide advice on how to check sources for their reliability and scientific usability.
- We help you to use the library, e.g. to register, find books or use the PC workstations in the library.
- If you have any further questions, we will give you the names of the relevant contact persons in the University Library.
Who will process my enquiry?
Your enquiry will be answered by librarians from the library's reference service. All staff are information specialists and use the following for their research
- the holdings of reference works, books and journals as well as the university library's databases and
- Internet sources, which are selected according to subject-specific and qualitative criteria.
FAQ
Can literature be sent to my home?
No, for copyright reasons we are not allowed to send printed or electronic copies. Books are not sent by post.
Can I access the internet at your library?
Yes, students of legal age can obtain authorisation for PC use at the Central Information Desk with their library card.
Can I work on my dissertation in the library?
Yes, there are numerous workstations available in the library. Due to Corona, only individual work is currently possible.
Do you compile bibliographies?
No, we cannot compile bibliographies for you. We will support you in your search for suitable literature.
Can I reserve books by phone or email?
No, books cannot be reserved in the library. If you want to borrow a book, you can look for it yourself on the shelves. If necessary, someone will always be there to help you.
Can you help me with my outline and questions about content?
No, we cannot help you with the content of your topic or the structure of your work. This task is the responsibility of the school or your subject teacher.
