When do digital media actually improve university teaching? Oldenburg education expert Prof Dr Olaf Zawacki-Richter is investigating this question in a new BMBF-funded project (ActiveLeaRn) together with Prof Dr Michael Kerres from the University of Duisburg-Essen. Together with other experts, they presented the programme's various research projects at a press conference in Berlin.
"Teaching via digital media does not automatically mean better teaching, because students' learning success does not depend on technology alone," says Zawacki-Richter, who teaches and researches knowledge transfer and learning with new technologies at the university's Centre for Lifelong Learning (C3L).
The project uses various scientific methods to investigate the conditions under which media-supported teaching and learning can succeed. The theoretical results will then be compared with practice and made accessible for practical application.
