Gods, Valkyries, dragons and around 16 hours of performance: Richard Wagner's opera cycle "The Ring of the Nibelung" is considered one of the most complex stage works ever. Anyone interested in music can get an introduction to the four operas that will be staged at the Oldenburg State Theatre this year in a seminar organised by the C3L - Centre for Lifelong Learning at the University of Oldenburg. The seminar, led by musicologist Dr Grigori Pantijelew, will take place over six days in February on Tuesdays and Fridays from 4.15 pm to 6 pm in the university's Chamber Music Hall (Haarentor campus, Building A11, Ammerländer Heerstraße 69). In the event, which is held in co-operation with the Staatstheater, the dramaturge, assistant director and director of studies of the Oldenburg production will give an insight into the preparation of the current production. The participants will analyse historical performances of the "Ring" using recordings with conductors such as Furtwängler, Karajan and Solti. A follow-up seminar will take place in June and July.
