Brief description and objectives
Green hydrogen is indispensable for the energy transition - many industries can be decarbonised with it alone. Leading companies from sectors such as energy, industrial production, transport and services are currently involved in pilot projects - with north-west Germany being a regional focus. Public institutions are also preparing for this future field.
The German Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Association (DWV) expects up to 70,000 additional jobs nationwide by 2030 and up to 150,000 by 2050. In order to meet this increased demand for qualified specialists, the University of Oldenburg developed the "Hydrogen for specialists and managers" training programme in 2022 in co-operation with Leibniz Universität Hannover and Fraunhofer IWES. The pilot programme was very successful. The third round started in November 2023, meaning that around 80 people successfully completed the programme in spring 2024.
The training programme enjoys an excellent reputation among experts, which is why additional partners were acquired during the pilot phase. At the same time, competitive pressure has increased significantly since the launch of the further education programme. While there were just three H2 further education programmes across Germany at the start of the first round, the number had increased to around 60 by the end of 2023. Against this backdrop, good networking is a key success factor for the expansion and quality assurance of the programme.
The six-month further education programme will continue to be offered at an attractive, competitive price. The current rhythm is also to be maintained. For the period 2024 - 2025, two further German-language programmes are planned, each with 16 to 20 participants. As the number of partners and alumni is constantly growing, the programme is to be stabilised and expanded by addressing them in a targeted manner. In addition to regular dialogue with the partners, an annual alumni event is also to be offered in an attractive environment. In this environment, Oldenburg can position itself as a key player in the energy transition and the qualification of skilled workers.
Target group
The target group includes potential participants, especially subjects and managers with a connection to hydrogen projects - both in administration and in companies from sectors such as conventional energy generation, renewable energies, the automotive industry and grid operation (electricity and gas). The further education programme is also relevant for municipal utilities and transport companies. Alumni of the programme and potential partners of further education such as industry associations and research networks are also part of the target group.
