Counselling and help in special situations
Personalised advice
If you are missing information or would like individual counselling, our subject advisors will be happy to help you.
Part-time study
It is also possible to undertake a part-time study.
You can find the application form to be submitted, as well as the University of Oldenburg’s part-time study regulations, at uol.de/studium/studierendenstatus.
Your academic adviser must advise you on part-time study to ensure the best possible selection of modules and must sign the proposal. You must submit the proposal to the Admissions office during re-registration. Only first-year students may submit the proposal at a later date.
The form asks for the reasons for a part-time study solely for statistical purposes – these are not relevant to the approval of your application.
Allowances for special needs
Studying with disabilities
For students with a health-related disability, there is a wide range of support services and information available on Allowances for special needs, management of studies, practical assistance, as well as relevant legislation and guidelines.
You can find this at https://uol.de/studium/behindert-chronisch-kranke-studierende
Allowances for special needs for pregnant students
As a pregnant woman or a breastfeeding mother, you are entitled to special protection even as a student.
If you belong to the risk group of pregnant or breastfeeding women and are attending a course that may require such protection, please contact Department 3, the Examinations Office, to obtain a risk assessment and authorisation for the course. Without this authorisation, attendance is unfortunately NOT possible if you belong to the at-risk group.
Please also contact your subject-specific academic adviser or the DfI’s Equal Opportunities Officer to discuss options for compensatory measures that would enable you to attend such courses in an adapted format.
Further information on your legal rights as a pregnant woman can be found at https://uol.de/studium/mutterschutz-studentinnen
DfI policy paper on combating discrimination and social responsibility
We take action
- We actively fulfil our shared responsibility towards the society in which we live.
- In an interconnected world, challenges can only be resolved through peaceful international cooperation. We take a firm stand against all forms of nationalism.
- We are committed to ensuring that people are not disadvantaged or defamed because of their skin colour, origin, religion, gender or sexual orientation.
- We are not prepared to tolerate discussions that are devoid of facts or based on resentment.
What to do in the face of discrimination?
Do not ignore or brush aside discrimination; stand up for yourself:
- Make your position clear and signal that such behaviour is unacceptable.
- Document instances of discrimination in writing (particularly in cases of sexual harassment).
- Speak to people you trust, or to the student body, the relevant lecturers and the appropriate counselling service about these negative experiences.
