WP 8 Trade-offs in ecosystem services
WP 8 will perform the analysis of cumulative effects and trade-offs in multiple ecosystem functions & services for each scenario in a spatially and temporally explicit way, thus integrating the ecosystem perspective with economic and societal perspectives. In WP 8, we will further test the overall hypothesis of COMTESS that, under increasingly stochastic conditions, the trade-offs will promote multifunctional landscapes because they create a response diversity of ESS at the landscape scale that increases resilience to extreme events due to a diversification of ecological functions, economic risks and perceptions of social actors. Finally, WP 8 will provide recommendations of land management for sustainable future coastal land use considering deterministic vs. stochastic environmental variability. This will be a significant contribution to the National Strategy for Integrated Coastal Zone Management.
