Latest news

Here you will find up-to-date information on the Nutrition and Functionality in Old Age group, e.g. on participation in studies.

People (70+) wanted for study!
MotiV: Measure, optimise, train for the individual improvement of nutrition and exercise

You can take part in a study on nutrition and functionality in older people (EFA)!

Who can take part?

  • You are aged 70 or over.
  • You are able to get about within Oldenburg.
  • You are interested in information about nutrition and exercise.
  • You suspect that you may be experiencing early difficulties with mobility (e.g. balance problems) or nutrition (e.g. loss of appetite, weight loss).
  • No prior technical experience required!

What is it about?

The digital support system ‘MotiV’ is being tested in a twelve-week randomised controlled trial at the University of Oldenburg. This system consists of a tablet-based app and a measurement and training station developed at the University of Oldenburg.

All participants will be randomly assigned to one of two groups:

  • Intervention group: Uses the ‘MotiV’ support system for 12 weeks.
  • Control group: Receives no intervention, but is assessed at the start and end of the study in the same way as the other group.

The system enables you to measure your diet and physical activity levels independently and to train in a targeted manner – tailored to your individual needs.

What is your role?

You will help us to test the effectiveness of ‘MotiV’.
Firstly, we will assess your suitability. You will then be randomly assigned to one of two groups:

  • Intervention group: You will use the app and the training station for 12 weeks to monitor and improve your mobility and diet.
  • Control group: You will not use the support system, but will be assessed at the start and end of the study in the same way as the other group.

Your participation will help us understand whether digital support helps older people maintain their health.

Why are we doing this?

Nutritional and physical activity problems in older people are often only recognised once limitations in daily life have already arisen. However, early detection and targeted measures can prevent such impairments.

Through this study, we aim to test whether a digital approach such as ‘MotiV’ can help older people remain independent and healthy.

If you’re interested or would like more information, please feel free to get in touch with us with no obligation!

We look forward to hearing from you!
