Helpful tips and instructions

The ZSKB at the University of Oldenburg provides some helpful tips and documents. Just take a look at their website: uol.de/studium/lernwerkstatt

There you will find, for example

Final Thesis Orientation

Information on the organisation of final theses at the chairs of FK II (Dep. WiRe)

Towards the end of your studies, you will begin to consider in more detail the subject area and supervisor you would like to write your final thesis (bachelor's or master's thesis) with. When choosing your subject area, topic and supervisor, you can get an idea of what is available by visiting the websites of the chairs whose subject areas (or individual modules) are of interest to you. The chairs and their websites can be found here:

Please consult the website of the respective chair before sending an enquiry. There you will usually find initial information on writing a thesis in the respective subject area and, if applicable, an overview of possible topics and supervisors.

Please also remember to start looking for a topic and examiner in good time. The procedure for arranging supervision of your thesis varies depending on the chair. Please enquire in good time with the desired professorship or primary supervisor about the requirements (deadlines, modules to be taken at the chair, application/motivation letter, list of topics, etc.) and whether supervision of your thesis is possible. It is advisable to give the lecturer an initial idea of the thematic focus of your thesis when making this enquiry. Please also note that the individual chairs have limited capacity for supervising theses. It is best to start looking for a topic and supervisor at least six months before you plan to start your thesis. If, for example, you want to write your thesis in the summer semester, it is best to enquire about suitable subject areas, topics and supervision options by October at the latest (this also depends on the respective subject area, the capacities available there and the number of enquiries).

By the way: Some subject areas, chairs and supervisors have also posted (selected) topics for theses on Stud.IP. However, as not all subject areas and supervisors are represented there, you should always find out about possible topics directly from the subject areas and supervisors and their websites.

To avoid misunderstandings: The "official" registration of the thesis with the Examinations Office, which is relevant for examination purposes, is independent of these enquiries and registration deadlines with the chairs or supervisors and takes place after consultation with the respective first examiner of the thesis.

If you need guidance in finding subject areas, topics and supervisors, please contact the academic advisory service responsible for you.
