Bachelor's and Master's thesis in medieval studies

Of course, you are also welcome to write your Bachelor’s and/or Master’s thesis on a topic relating to medieval studies. Such a thesis can currently be supervised by Prof. Dr Albrecht Hausmann and Dr Britta Bußmann as first and/or second examiners. Prof. Dr Meves now only supervises final-year theses in exceptional cases.

To discuss a topic, please contact the supervisor of your choice in person in good time. Please ensure that you comply with the deadlines set out in the examination regulations and in the registration procedure of the Institute for German Studies. A Bachelor’s thesis is usually around 30 pages long and is intended to demonstrate that you are able to familiarise yourself independently with a topic and address it in accordance with the requirements of academic writing. A Master’s thesis is correspondingly longer (“at least 60, at most 70 pages”) and should demonstrate an even greater degree of academic competence and independence. Each summer semester, we offer a one-hour accompanying seminar for Bachelor’s and Master’s theses.

General information on final theses at the Institute (dates, deadlines, etc.) can be found here (Bachelor’s thesis) and here (Master’s thesis).
