Prof Dr em. Hilbert Meyer
If you want some information in English, please go to the section "Curriculum vitae and lectures in English".
The first version of this homepage dates back to 2009 and has been revised, updated and expanded in 2022. Thanks to the colleagues at School I!
Dear homepage reader:
I am delighted that you are interested in my academic work and are therefore visiting this website. I am now 80 years old. Even though I'm slowly stepping back, I'm still active as a university lecturer, still supervising a few dissertation projects, giving a lecture here and there or holding a visiting professorship. You can find some of the lectures from the last 15 years in German and English on this homepage. Several lectures are also published on YouTube.
Curriculum vitae: Detailed notes on my professional and academic career can be found in the autobiographical text "Befriedigende Arbeit in Einstürzenden Neubauten". It can be found in the "Autobiographical" folder. The Wikipedia article "Hilbert Meyer" also provides concise and factually correct information about me.
Emeritus: I was awarded emeritus status in 2009 in accordance with the old legal situation. This applies to professors who were appointed before 1977. This means that I can and may continue to teach for as long as I wish - a privilege that I appreciate!
A wonderful academic appointment! I assume that many readers of this website are student teachers, trainee teachers and career changers. To them I say: the academic appointment you are aiming for is very demanding, but it can also be very satisfying as soon as you feel the response from the pupils. That is why it is becoming increasingly important to clarify your own understanding of your role in addition to developing specialised and didactic skills. The new editions of the two volumes "Unterrichtsmethoden" (2021 and 2022) provide some help in this regard.
My wish for you: I wish you all the best on your personal journey into everyday school life. My symbolic animal for the daily work at school was and is the hedgehog: it is pacifist at heart, but ready to defend itself if necessary. Perhaps this mission statement also fits your own attitude towards your pupils, colleagues and superiors?
Media grouch? 20 years ago, I was the university representative at Carl von Ossietzky University for the State Examinations. I received so many emails that I wrote on the home page of my website: "I'm a media grouch. I'm happy about every email I don't receive." That's different now! If you have a question, feel free to get in touch. My address:
