Experiences & Skills

I am currently a postdoctoral researcher in environmental biochemistry. My current research focuses on analysing organohalides (pesticides, PCBs, etc.) that have accumulated in vertebrates in the Wadden Sea. I am open to expanding the molecules of interest and would be happy to discuss prospective research topics with you. Furthermore, my PhD in inorganic chemistry equipped me with the skills required to develop new materials for specific applications by building on fundamental research and synthesising multifunctional hybrid materials. During my BSc and MSc studies in nuclear chemistry, I successfully acquired the skills required to handle and analyse radioactive isotopes using state-of-the-art radioanalytical methods. A fascination with biology has been a constant throughout my academic endeavours and led me to pursue a second BSc in the subject, focusing on acquiring fundamental biological knowledge. I am already well-acquainted with the subject of GLP due to the nature of my profession as a chemical-technical assistant.

Analysis Techniques

GC-MS/MS

Our laboratory is equipped with a brand new gas chromatograph with coupled triple quadrupole mass spectrometer from ThermoScientific (TRACE 1610 & TSQ 9610). A high sample throughput is guaranteed by an autosampler, also from ThermoScientific (AI 1610). With this setup, a wide variety of questions relating to anthropogenic organic environmental pollutants can be addressed.

Do you have any ideas or questions? Feel free to contact me, I am always open to new and exciting topics on the subject of pollutants.

Mercury Analyser

The harmful effects of mercury were already known in ancient times and have since been strictly regulated in the modern world, triggered by Minamata disease. The mercury content is determined by forming an Hg/Au amalgam with subsequent atomic absorption spectroscopic quantification in a DMA-80evo from Milestone.

A very broad spectrum can be analysed here, from sediments and liquids to organic materials. Interested? Feel free to contact me, I am open to collaborations of all kinds.
