The new Big Data in Medicine department offers new courses (Bachelor's and Master's) in the field of "Medical Computing Science" for Computing Science students.
The following courses will be offered in the coming summer semester 2023
- Medical Computing Science II: A practice-oriented simulation in interoperability and communication standards (Bachelor, module inf521)
Why are data exchange and data-driven communication in healthcare so difficult? What does "interoperability" mean, why is it so important for successful "digitalisation in medicine" and how can we Computing Science professionals implement it? In this course, you will learn more about this aspect from the field of Medical Computing Science, learn how to apply standards and technologies and simulate the path of medical data and messages in data-driven medical communication.
- Clinical Decision-Support Systems (Master, module inf523)
Clinical Decision-Support Systems (CDSS) are "(...) any computer program designed to help healthcare professionals to make clinical decisions" [Shortliffe et. al 2011] - It sounds so simple, but is difficult to implement. In this course, you will learn about the types and application classes of CDSS, analyse requirements and technical implementation concepts and discuss success factors, opportunities and limitations - using existing CDSS or CDSS to be developed yourself.
- Introduction to Medicine for Computing Science (Master)
Medical Computing Science is characterised by close cooperation with medical domain experts and interdisciplinary work on medical use cases. In this course, Dr Andreas Klausen (Senior Physician Emergency Centre Klinikum Oldenburg) will therefore provide interesting basics from the field of medicine.
- Discussion of current topics in Medical Computing Science (Bachelor and Master)
In this seminar, we discuss current topics relating to Medical Computing Science - based on new technologies, publications, research results or projects.
- Research seminar Big Data in Medicine (Bachelor)
You will learn how to apply scientific methods to an exciting research topic from the field of Medical Computing Science. For example, you will research literature, familiarise yourself with it, understand and evaluate the approaches and discuss them according to scientific standards. It is possible to take the research seminar as a supplement to the final thesis.
- Theses (incl. advanced seminar, Bachelor and Master)
- Specialisation in "Medical Computing Science" in the Master's degree:
The Master's modules offered are credited towards the specialisation "Medical Computing Science".
We look forward to your participation!
