Doctoral degree programme in Cultural Gender Studies
This is a doctoral degree programme; the aim is to qualify students for a doctorate in the field of cultural gender studies. The degree programme focuses on visual culture, its materiality and mediality, its theory, its history and its constitutive significance for gender relations and ideologies. "Visual culture" encompasses areas of so-called high art as well as popular and material culture; with its materiality, the programme also examines the relationships between optical and haptic modes of perception and their influence through the history of the media. The programme is therefore necessarily transdisciplinary.
This degree programme is being phased out; new enrolment has no longer been possible since 04/2020.
Entry requirements
University degree, preferably in the subjects of art or textile studies, cultural studies / European ethnology / cultural anthropology, literature, media and music studies.
