German Museums Association

The German Museums Association is the organisation representing the interests of all museums in German and their employees. It publishes the magazine "Museumskunde" twice a year. Numerous specialist groups are also organised in the Museumsbund, such as the specialist group for history museums or the specialist group for cultural history and art museums, as well as the "Volunteer Working Group", which is committed to improving training conditions and the exchange of information between volunteers. In addition to dates and news from the museum sector, the site also has a current job market.

Federal Association of Museum Education

Around 700 museum educators are organised nationwide in the Federal Association of Museum Education. It aims to represent the interests of museum education and museum communication in politics, culture and education and to further develop the profession of museum educator. In addition to contact information for the regional associations, the website also offers a comprehensive list of literature and job vacancies.

ICOM - International council of museums

ICOM (The International Council of Museums) is the international organisation of museums and their employees, founded in 1946. It endeavours, for example, to draw up museum standards and publishes a code of ethics for museums.

Co-operation museums

Museums

The University of Oldenburg has been working with museums, collections and exhibition centres at regional, national and international level for many years. The Master's degree programme in Museum and Exhibition in particular maintains contact with many museums in and outside the region, some of which are integrated into the degree programme as permanent cooperation partners. Numerous museum directors from the region are also involved in the degree programme as honorary professors and lecturers.

In many cases, however, these co-operations are based on the personal contacts and individual teaching and research focus of the respective lecturers. On the part of the museums, on the other hand, little is known about the teaching and research focuses at the University of Oldenburg and the opportunities for cooperation.

In order to further expand cooperation and better bring together suitable cooperation partners, an "Interface for the Coordination of Cooperation between the University and Museums" was set up at the Institute of Material Culture in October 2011. This is currently being continued by Dr Beate Bollmann as part of her work as a lecturer on the degree programme. The task is to coordinate the museums that are involved in the Master's degree programme "Museum and Exhibition" as cooperation museums. In addition, the interface has set itself the goal of intensifying co-operation between the university and museums as a whole. In recent years, it has been possible to establish new contacts or deepen existing contacts and bring interested museums together with suitable cooperation partners at the University of Oldenburg.
