National recognition for the Oldenburg hearing researchers: Yesterday evening, 28 November 2012, Federal President Joachim Gauck presented the German Future Prize, endowed with 250,000 euros, to the Oldenburg hearing researchers Prof. Dr Dr Birger Kollmeier and Prof. Dr Volker Hohmann as well as Dr Torsten Niederdränk from Siemens AG.
The trio of researchers received the prize for technology and innovation awarded by the Federal President for their project "Binaural hearing aids - spatial hearing for all". The jury justified its decision with the words: "The technology honoured today will significantly improve the quality of life of hearing impaired people and enable them to participate normally in social life again."
