Demographic change means that the number of people with hearing problems will increase significantly. Today, around 18 per cent of the German population already suffer from hearing loss that requires treatment. Those affected can benefit from the fact that research findings in psychoacoustics are being incorporated into the further development of hearing aids, among other things. There are also numerous other areas of application for this scientific discipline. In the article, Prof. Dr Birger Kollmeier, Head of the Department of Medical Physics at the University of Oldenburg, explains psychoacoustic measurement methods.
