Youth Future Day 2012
Youth Future Day 2012
Girls conquer the listening throne
The Youth Future Day 2012 took place at the Carl von Ossietzky University at the end of April. The Medical Physics working group also took part with various contributions on the subject of hearing. A total of eight girls from Year 5 and 6 were given an insight into the day-to-day work of medical physics. They were able to test how hearing ability can be measured and determined using an audiogram. They then had the opportunity to wear a hearing aid themselves and gain an impression of hearing with modern hearing aids. During a guided tour of the vibration laboratory and the low-noise room, the girls were able to find out about current research projects in physics.
A visit to the nearby The Haus des Hörens also included a detour to the Hörgarten. The hearing garden consists of various exhibits on the subject of hearing, such as the hearing throne or the middle ear timpani. A demonstration of the communication acoustics simulator (KAS) was of course also part of the visit to The Haus des Hörens. The KAS makes it possible to simulate the acoustic properties of a wide variety of rooms by varying the effective acoustic room size. This allowed the girls to experience how quickly a church can suddenly transform into a classroom. The next Youth Future Day will take place on 25 April 2013. Interested students can contact the University's Equal Opportunities Office. [06.06.2012]
