History of music education
Discussions on music teacher training in Oldenburg (Musik & Bildung 1975 and 1981)
In 1975 and 1981, the journal Musik und Bildung devoted two special issues to the Oldenburg music study programme and was subsequently "flooded" with a flood of critical and polemical commentaries. The document summarises central articles and positions that have lost none of their topicality to this day: Download
"We make music... as teachers for the nineties" - The subject of music at the University of Oldenburg in 1984
We have found a fascinating piece of contemporary and subject history of music at the University of Oldenburg in our archive: In their book from 1984, the authors, Wolfgang Martin Stroh and the music student body, describe the situation of the subject of music at the University of Oldenburg in 1984 and show perspectives for the future organisation of teacher training in music.
In conjunction with the videos already published for this purpose, a lively and differentiated picture emerges of music teacher training at the University of Oldenburg in the mid-1980s.
Open Day 2014 - 40 years of music didactic concepts from Oldenburg
To mark the 40th anniversary of the University of Oldenburg, an open day was held at the Institute of Music on 23 July 2014. In addition to a variety of events, Prof Lars Oberhaus hosted a special kind of panel discussion: Former employees and professors of music education from over 40 years of the institute's history discussed current issues in music education and also provided the audience with lively insights into the founding and early days of the university.
In the context of the educational reforms of the 1970s, music education concepts that are still relevant today, such as auditory perception education, apparatus-based music practice and scenic interpretation, were developed at the University of Oldenburg.
This video provided by Wolfgang Martin Stroh gives a first impression of the zeitgeist of the 1980s:
