On the trail of logic

This year, the Audimax in the lecture theatre centre is once again firmly in the hands of children: The KinderUniversität Oldenburg offers exciting excursions into the world of science on six afternoons. Advance tickets for the spring semester are now on sale.

The KinderUni will kick off on Wednesday, 4 March at 4.30 p.m. under the motto "It's logical! Or is it?" - However, the eight to twelve-year-olds won't be getting to the bottom of logic with Sherlock Holmes, but with the philosopher Prof. Dr Mark Siebel in the Audimax of the lecture hall centre. But who knows, maybe Sherlock Holmes will play a role after all?

Do insects actually have ears like we do? Can they even hear? Neurobiologist Prof. Dr Jannis Hildebrandt will be exploring these and other exciting questions in his lecture "What's that chirping? How insects sing and hear." together with the KinderUni students.
"Just a moment to save the world ..." - of course, this is not possible during the one-hour KinderUni lecture given by economist Prof. Dr Niko Paech on 18 March. But the children will know what "sustainable" means and that everyone can do something for the world after this excursion into science.

The lectures start at 4.30 pm. Admission to the lecture theatre centre (A14) on the Haarentor campus is from 4.00 pm. Tickets (2.50 euros) for the three spring lectures are available from Thursday, 5 February on the Internet via the KinderUni website and at the offices of the Nordwest-Zeitung and all advance booking offices of Nordwest Ticket GmbH. Adults do not need an admission ticket - they are not allowed in the lecture theatre. They can follow the lectures on a screen in the foyer of the lecture theatre centre.

Once again this year, there are numerous other opportunities to discover the world of science under the umbrella of the KinderUniversität: for example in the university chemistry laboratory (CHEMOL), in the Wadden Sea learning laboratory, in the children's research centre, in the teaching-learning laboratory physiXS or online at "Physics for Kids" and the Sachunterricht learning workshop. The Natural Science House Oldenburg (NAWI-Haus) also offers courses on physics, chemistry, biology and technology. The "Green School" activity days in the Botanical Garden and the "Sensory School" also invite you to join in. Children can experience art up close and get creative themselves in the seminars at the Kunsthalle Emden and the Horst Janssen Museum.

"Just a moment to save the world ..." - Following on from the KinderUni lecture by Prof. Dr Niko Paech, the theatre education department of the Oldenburg State Theatre is offering a research workshop for families with children aged eight to twelve from 25 to 29 March.

The KinderUniversität project would not be possible without the commitment of the sponsors. The main sponsor this year is once again the Landessparkasse zu Oldenburg (LzO).
