Dynamically on the way to an international university

"Open to new paths": in line with this motto, the university is successfully driving forward its internationalisation. At a conference of the German Rectors' Conference (HRK) in Berlin, it received a certificate for its participation in the internationalisation audit.

In 2013 and 2014, the university took part in the audit, with which the HRK has been supporting universities in their internationalisation efforts since 2009. "The audit has given the internationalisation process a great deal of momentum," says a delighted Prof. Dr Katharina Al-Shamery, Acting President of the University. In addition to evaluating the measures taken to date and those planned, such an audit also helps with the future sustainable implementation of the internationalisation strategy agreed between the Presidential Board and the Schools.

The HRK experts positively emphasised that the University of Oldenburg sees internationality as a profile feature and that a broad commitment is noticeable in research, teaching and administration - in line with its motto "Open to new paths". All Schools were involved in internationalisation, the experts praised.

The University will continue this process in various fields in the future, emphasised Birgit Bruns, Head of the International Relations Office (IRO), who accepted the certificate on behalf of the University in Berlin. "The audit process has brought many different stakeholders together to share experiences and concretise further measures."

The next milestones could therefore include even greater mobility for students and academics as well as greater international openness in teacher training.
