Lord Mayor Gerd Schwandner visits the university's outpatient centre - and is impressed by the variety of services on offer. Among other things, the outpatient centre offers psychomotor support for children and training for young people with attention deficit disorder.
Lord Mayor Prof. Dr Gerd Schwandner was impressed by the quality and diversity of the services offered by the Outpatient Centre for Rehabilitation at the University of Oldenburg during his visit in January.
The Outpatient Centre, a facility of the Institute of Special Needs Education and Rehabilitation, consists of six areas with different focal points. They closely combine practice-orientated research and teaching with assistance for the region. The support offered is diverse: it ranges from psychomotor support for children, diagnostics and training for young people with attention disorders, diagnostics and counselling for non-speaking people, counselling for hearing-impaired people and stroke patients, support for mobile services and schools to prevent or intervene in cases of truancy, through to training courses on the inclusion of disabled people.
Prof Dr Andrea Erdélyi, Director of the Institute of Special Needs Education and Rehabilitation, hopes that the Lord Mayor's visit will provide "further impetus to intensify co-operation between the city and academia". Schwandner paid particular tribute to the close links between the outpatient centre and numerous schools, clinics, disability support organisations and other facilities in the region.
