Last KinderUni lecture with prize draw

Alfred is the main character in the last KinderUni lecture of the year: "Growing up while the war rages - How children experienced the Second World War". His experiences take the KinderUni students into the recent German past.

Alfred is the main character in the last KinderUni lecture of the year: "Growing up while the war rages - How children experienced the Second World War". His experiences take the KinderUni students into the recent German past.

The historian Prof. Dr Malte Thießen will take the eight to twelve-year-olds on a journey into Alfred's childhood seventy years ago on Wednesday, 19 September at 4.30 pm in the Audimax of the Hörsaalzentrum. Using the report of the then seven-year-old, impressively presented in short dramatised scenes, Thießen will show why it can be so important for historical research to read and analyse not only the records of adults - but also the reports of children. Children observe very closely and see things differently to adults. This helps scientists to learn more about earlier times and get a better picture.

After the lecture, the excitement continues: the traditional raffle takes place, which concludes the Children's University year and in which all children present take part. The first prize: a weekend trip to the capital city of Berlin with a visit to the Extavium hands-on science museum in Potsdam. The main prize, which includes a train journey for the winning child and accompanying person, two nights in a hotel, the Berlin WelcomeCard and an experimental course at the Extavium, is sponsored by Landessparkasse zu Oldenburg (LzO).

Tickets for the lecture are available at a price of 2 euros from Nordwest Ticket GmbH on 0421/363636 and 01805/361136 (14 c/min.) and at the offices of the Nordwest-Zeitung.
Admission to the lecture theatre centre on Uhlhornsweg is at 4.00 pm. Accompanying adults can follow the event as usual on a screen in the foyer of the building. The Malteser Hilfsdienst will provide security on site.

If you would like to familiarise yourself with the topic of the lecture now, you can do so in all Oldenburg district libraries and in the youth library (Peterstraße). Special book tables have been set up here.

Media partners of the KinderUniversität Oldenburg are the Nordwest-Zeitung, NDR 1 Niedersachsen and Radio Bremen Vier. The project is sponsored by the Landessparkasse zu Oldenburg (LzO), the Verband der Metall- und Elektroindustrie e.V. (NORDMETALL), the business association "Der Kleine Kreis e.V." and the "Junge Öffentliche".
