“Computing Science – is it all digital?” Under this banner, the Department of Computing Science at the University of Oldenburg invites interested school pupils to discover the various facets of this subject.
The Computing Science Information Day on Friday 22 January, taking place from 9.30 am to 1.30 pm in the Lecture Theatre Centre (Building A14, Haarentor campus, Uhlhornsweg 86) from 9.30 am to 1.30 pm, featuring lectures and presentations of student projects, as well as taster courses in app programming, a Computing Science obstacle course and personalised study advice.
“Computing Science is not only increasingly permeating our entire environment, but is also changing the way we interact with it,” say the organisers, Prof. Dr Ira Diethelm and Prof. Dr Martin Fränzle. “In the near future, thanks to connectivity, we will be able to influence objects – whether small or large, near or far, unassuming or technically exciting – with the same ease with which we surf the web today.”
As examples, they cite self-driving cars and medical surgical robots, as well as the ongoing digitalisation of the media landscape and business processes. The Computing Science Information Day aims to inspire young people from Year 10 onwards and other interested parties about the technology behind all these phenomena.
