It has a long tradition and is always something special - the New Year's reception of the University and University Society Oldenburg e.V. (UGO) at the Oldenburg State Theatre.
With "Dumbarton Oaks/Articulation/Marimba", the ballet company presents a varied and exciting performance with three stylistically different ballets in the main theatre on 21 January:
"Dumbarton Oaks" is a work that Antoine Jully created with great success for Ballett am Rhein in 2013. Jully develops a choreographic language for Igor Stravinsky's neoclassical chamber concerto. Just as Stravinsky plays with predetermined elements, Jully also experiments with corresponding movement models.
In the solo creation "Artikulation" (music: György Ligeti), Antoine Jully develops a compelling special movement repertoire with the dancer Lester René González Álvarez.
"Marimba" by Lar Lubovitch, whom the New York Times ranks among the ten best choreographers in the world, was created for the Maurice Béjart Ballet in 1976. In this choreographic stroke of genius, music and dance combine hypnotically to the minimal music of American composer Steve Reich.
Tickets for the evening, which begins at 6.30 pm with a reception, are available in five price categories and can be booked <link neujahrsempfang/ - external-link-new-window>here</link>. By purchasing a ticket, guests at the New Year's Reception are once again supporting the university's scholarship programme for students. The performance will be followed by a "chat afterwards". Culinary delights will be provided thanks to the support of UGO Honorary Chairman Dr h. c. Peter Waskönig.
