It will be completed in September, just in time for the start of the winter semester: the modular building for the European Medical School Oldenburg-Groningen (EMS). It is currently under construction on the Wechloy campus.
“This building is an important first step. With a usable floor area of 580 square metres, it will house the Dean's Office of the School of Medicine and Health Sciences as well as the first seminar rooms,” emphasises University President Prof. Dr Babette Simon. Meik Möllers, the university’s Head of Building Management, adds: “Thanks to the modular construction method, the building work will be completed in a short space of time.” At the same time, the building meets high quality standards.
The basement of the building will house one large and two small seminar rooms, as well as further rooms for the basic training of medical students. The upper floor will house two further seminar rooms as well as the offices of the Dean's Office of the School of Medicine. In line with the EMS’s unique teaching concept, which offers students patient-centred training and involves patients in the seminars, all seminar rooms are being specially equipped. This includes, for example, examination couches, flexible tables and state-of-the-art media technology for teaching and examinations. The seminar rooms on the ground floor are accessible to ensure easy access for patients.
The construction costs amount to around 1.8 million euros. The client is the Ems-Weser State Building Management Authority. Planning and site management are in the hands of the Oldenburg-based architectural practice Kulla, Herr und Partner.
