It will be ready in September, just in time for the start of the winter semester: The modular building for the European Medical School Oldenburg-Groningen (EMS). It is currently under construction on the Wechloy campus.
"This building is an important first step. With a usable area of 580 square metres, it offers space for the Dean's Office of the School of Medicine and Health Sciences as well as for the first seminar rooms," emphasises University President Prof. Dr Babette Simon. Meik Möllers, Head of Building Management at the University, adds: "Thanks to the modular construction method, we only have a short construction time". At the same time, the building fulfils the high quality requirements.
A large and two small seminar rooms as well as additional rooms for the basic training of medical students will be created in the basement of the building. The upper floor will house two further seminar rooms and the offices of the Dean's Office of the School of Medicine. With a view to the special teaching concept of the EMS, which offers students patient-orientated training and involves patients in the seminars, all seminar rooms will be specially equipped. This includes, for example, examination couches, flexible tables and state-of-the-art media technology for teaching and examinations. The seminar rooms on the ground floor are barrier-free to provide patients with easy access.
The construction costs amount to around 1.8 million euros. The client is the Ems-Weser state construction management organisation. Planning and construction management are in the hands of the Oldenburg architectural firm Kulla, Herr und Partner.
