With the “NoW – Northwest Alliance Research Fund,” the Northwest Alliance, a partnership between the universities of Bremen and Oldenburg, aims to intensify scientific collaboration between the two institutions. Researchers can apply for up to 20,000 euros in funding.

Researchers can submit proposals from now until the end of June 2026, as long as funds are available. A co-operation is possible in two funding lines: "Northwest Impuls" and "Northwest Advanced".

"Northwest Impuls" is intended to initiate new collaborations between researchers from both universities. Funding is available for up to 40 tandems that have not yet published jointly or acquired third-party funding. Professors and permanent research assistants at both universities are eligible to apply. They can apply for funding of up to 5,000 euros for workshops, feasibility studies or the preparation of draft applications.

The "Northwest Advanced" programme aims to support collaborative research between the two universities and to strengthen the existing joint research priorities and areas of potential of the Northwest Alliance – from climate research to health and AI topics, energy transition, and sustainability. Teams of professors from both universities can apply for funding of up to 20,000 euros, for example for conferences, pilot studies, or support services for third-party funding applications. Up to ten teams will receive funding.

The funding lines are an integral part of the Northwest Alliance's long-term strategy to build lasting academic networks and increase the international visibility of the participating institutions.
