“Risk Management for Banks and Insurance Companies” is the name of a new part-time Master’s programme set to launch in the summer semester at the University of Oldenburg.
The degree programme, which is unique in Germany in terms of both its structure and content, reflects the growing importance of risk management and the increasing demand for highly qualified specialists. It is designed to run for six semesters on a part-time basis and is aimed in particular at professionals from banks, financial services firms and insurance companies in the region. The deadline for applications is 16 April.
Those who do not wish to complete a full Master’s degree can still gain qualifications in risk management. Those interested can take part in a certificate programme with a personalised focus and select individual insurance- or banking-specific modules as standalone continuing professional development units. The programme begins with the foundation module ‘Quantitative Methods’ on 25 and 26 May. The lecturer is Prof. Dr Dietmar Pfeifer.
Admission requirements for the Master’s programme are a relevant university degree and at least one year’s professional experience. There are no specific admission requirements for the certificate programme. In addition to face-to-face sessions in Oldenburg, the degree programme also offers teaching materials available online. What makes this degree programme unique is the close link between mathematics and economics, as well as its combination of scientifically sound theory and industry-specific practical focus.
The idea and concept behind the new degree programme were developed by the Oldenburg academics Prof. Dr Angelika May, Prof. Dr Dietmar Pfeifer and Prof. Dr Jörg Prokop. May is an expert in financial mathematics and asset management for life insurance. Pfeifer conducts research and teaches in the field of actuarial science and risk management. Prokop is a professor of finance and banking. All three academics have many years’ experience in further education.
