"Risk Management for Banks and Insurance Companies" is the name of a new part-time Master's degree programme that will be launched at the University of Oldenburg in the summer semester.
The structure and content of the degree programme, which is unique in Germany, takes into account the growing importance of risk management and the increasing demand for highly qualified specialists. It is designed to last six part-time semesters and is aimed in particular at specialists from banks, financial services and insurance companies in the region. The application deadline is 16 April.
Those who do not wish to complete a full Master's programme can still gain a qualification in risk management. Those interested can take part in a certificate programme with an individual focus and choose individual insurance or bank-specific modules as independent further training units. The training starts with the basic module "Quantitative Methods" on 25 and 26 May. The lecturer is Prof Dr Dietmar Pfeifer.
Admission requirements for the Master's programme are a relevant university degree and at least one year of professional experience. There are no special requirements for the certificate programme. In addition to attendance phases in Oldenburg, the programme also offers online teaching materials. The special feature of the degree programme is the close link between mathematics and economics as well as scientifically based theory and industry-specific practical orientation.
The idea and concept of the new degree programme was the brainchild of Oldenburg academics Prof. Dr Angelika May, Prof. Dr Dietmar Pfeifer and Prof. Dr Jörg Prokop. May is an expert in financial mathematics and asset management for life insurance companies. Pfeifer researches and teaches in the field of actuarial mathematics and risk management. Prokop is Professor of Finance and Banking. All three academics have many years of experience in further academic education.
