UGO science prize for Daniel Nickelsen

Oldenburg physicist Daniel Nickelsen has gained important insights for energy research in his dissertation. For this, he has been awarded the Science Prize of the Oldenburg University Society (UGO), worth 2,000 euros.

This year, 32-year-old Diplom physicist Daniel Nickelsen will receive the Science Prize of the Oldenburg University Society (UGO), worth 2,000 euros, for his outstanding doctorate.

Nickelsen had nine competitors whose doctoral theses had also been nominated for the prize by professors. The official award ceremony will take place on 18 November at the University of Oldenburg.

In his dissertation in theoretical physics, which he completed in 2014, Nickelsen focussed on the representation of thermodynamic processes and turbulent flows as Markov processes and gained insights that could be of significance for energy research.

As a physicist, Nickelsen is a native of Oldenburg. After graduating from high school in Husum in 2003, he began his studies at the University of Oldenburg. Before graduating with honours in 2010, he completed a research stay at Imperial College in London. As a doctoral candidate, he supervised exercise groups in the bachelor's programme. Today he is a research assistant at the Institute of Physics.
