University bids farewell to Computing Science graduates

114 computer science students have graduated from the University of Oldenburg this academic year. 42 diploma students, 49 Bachelor's and 13 Master's graduates as well as 10 doctoral candidates received their certificates last Friday at a ceremony organised by the Department of Computing Science.

Five graduates were delighted to receive special honours: Thole Klingenberg received the first prize from the alumni association OLDIES e.V. for his outstanding Diplom thesis entitled "Smart Submetering. Efficient use of submeters to determine activity in private households using adaptive learning methods". Second place went to the Diplom theses of Janko Timmermann and Jan Vornberger. Matthias Rohr, board member of OLDIES e.V., presented the awards.

Thomas Vogelgesang and Timo Michelsen received the CONTACT Software Sponsorship Award 2011 for their master's theses. Achim Müller, member of the CONTACT management board, presented the award, which is endowed with 2,000 euros each. Vogelgesang and Michelsen wrote their theses as part of the Computing Science project Odysseus, which was led by Oldenburg computer scientist Prof. Dr Dr h.c. Hans-Jürgen Appelrath. Since 2008, CONTACT Software, together with the Faculty of Mathematics/Computing Science at the University of Bremen, the Department of Computing Science at the University of Oldenburg and OFFIS-TZI e.V., has been awarding the CONTACT Software Sponsorship Prize. It is endowed with a total of 10,000 euros.
