Historical clothing, GDR film scripts or bacterial cultures: the university is providing an insight into its diverse scientific collections with an exhibition. This can be seen successively in the Botanical Garden, on campus and in the city centre.
The research treasures include historical and contemporary clothing and textiles, DEFA films and scripts from the GDR, an economic history archive on monetary and land reform, plant collections and cultures of important marine bacteria.
The collection also illustrates the history of the university. The exhibition, curated by Dr Oliver Schoenbeck (University Library) and Dr Bernhard von Hagen (Botanical Garden), presents the collections using individual items as examples and accompanying texts on their scope, history and significance.
Since its opening on 11 June, the "Discovering Science" show has initially been on display in the Botanical Garden's Glass House (Philosophenweg 39). On 8 July, it will move to the foyer of the University Library (Uhlhornsweg 49-55) and will finally be shown in the Smart House on Schlossplatz from 24 August to 9 October.
