Less stress in everyday life - how does that work?

"Let go of stress!" This is the motto of this year's Health Days from 20 to 22 June at the University of Oldenburg. Almost everyone encounters the term "stress" in everyday life, both at work and in their leisure time. But what exactly is stress and how does it work?

"Let go of stress!" This is the motto of this year's Health Days from 20 to 22 June at the University of Oldenburg. Almost everyone encounters the term "stress" in everyday life, both at work and in their leisure time. But what exactly is stress and how does it work?

Work, exams, leisure, family, transport or administrative stress: there is hardly an area of life that is not associated with this term. Many people do not know how to avoid and reduce stress. Workshops and presentations by experts from various disciplines will provide employees and students with background knowledge and stress management during the Health Days. An information stand in the cafeteria foyer will provide interested parties with information about the Health Day programme. There will also be a wide range of exercise and sports activities to reduce stress.

These include the "Moving Break" organised by university sports for courses. An exercise instructor comes into lectures for five to seven minutes and "moves" students with light mobilisation, coordination and strengthening exercises. Special attention is paid to the neck, shoulders and back, as sitting for long periods puts particular strain on these areas. The "Moving Break" can be booked by lecturers. It promotes concentration and should help students to better absorb the content of the second part of the course with relaxed muscles.

During a hike through the Haarenniederung nature reserve on the Haarentor campus, participants can learn about relaxation and stress reduction through exercise in nature. There will also be introductory courses in the university's fitness and health centre "StudiO" on all three days.

The university has been organising health days as a health promotion measure since 2004. On these days, everything revolves around the health of employees and students.
