Pupils in Years 12 and 13 will have the opportunity to try out a science subject on Thursday and Friday, 4 and 5 June 2009, as part of the ‘Studier!’ Days at the University of Oldenburg’s Wechloy campus. The organisers – School V (School of Mathematics and Science) and the University’s Centre for Teaching and Learning (diz) – are expecting around 120 pupils with an interest in the natural sciences. The taster programme is funded by the EWE Foundation.

The aim of the programme is to make it easier for pupils to choose a degree subject and to provide an initial insight into everyday university life. Trial students can choose between physics, mathematics and chemistry. On the first day of the event, the focus will be on lectures and laboratory practicals. Student life will also be well represented: the canteen and the university sports department will be showcasing what they have to offer. On the second day, pupils can also attend the events at the University Information Day (HIT), where they can find out about other degree programmes and subjects, as well as interdisciplinary topics such as career goals, application procedures, Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, and funding for their studies. Throughout the two days, pupils will receive intensive support in small groups from students at the School.
