Senior SuRE-Student David Londono Ochoa from Colombia is sharing his offshore experience gained during thesis placement of OREO in Germany.
Theory without experience is simple intellectual play!
Last week, I had the incredible experience of visiting the Riffgat offshore wind farm to support the drone-assisted blade inspection campaign that we are performing at Omexom Deutschland.
It was the perfect opportunity to understand how this type of activity is carried out and the challenges we encounter while doing it.
Being about to finish my master’s program in renewable energy with emphasis on wind energy, it was a great moment to understand firsthand many of the concepts I learned in the academy, while enjoying the beautiful view of these giant machines that produce part of the electricity we consume every day in our homes.
I was also able to learn a bit about the whole logistical and planning process involved in the development of offshore inspection and maintenance activities, and how every minute counts when considering that there is always a risk of cancellation due to unexpected weather changes.
This was a dream that I finally fulfilled after a long time, as I was able to combine the passion I have for wind energy with the deep love and respect I have for the ocean.
