The department is headed by Prof Dr Jürgen Sauer. There is a close cooperation with the DLR Institute for Systems Engineering for Future Mobility headed by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Axel Hahn.

In research and teaching, we focus on the system analysis and optimisation of maritime systems and for energy-efficient transport and production systems. We also work closely with the OFFIS e.V. Institute for Computing Science.
