Services and support offers

In our biobank structure, we offer you comprehensive advice on all steps of the analytical process. We accompany you from the planning of your study to the selection of the right samples. In addition, our experienced and broadly diversified team is at your disposal for the interpretation of your results.

We also take care of the processing of your biosamples - from sample collection to storage. Our modern facilities and trained staff guarantee the highest quality standards and ensure that your samples are stored and archived safely and reliably.

We take care of the preparation and storage of biosamples to ensure that your samples can be used optimally for your research projects.

Advice on your research project

The CF Biobank structure provides advice and support for all parts of the analytical process:

  • Preanalytics - Influence on the requirements for collection
  • Analysis - the intended research and application purpose
  • Post-analysis - intended evaluation strategies of the analysis results

We offer a non-binding consultation at the time of project planning.

This can be individually adapted to the project by telephone, in person or in writing .

Following the consultation, a protocol is drawn up by the CF Biobank Structure consultant to record the individual points. This covers the following areas, among others

  • Analytics
  • Outsourcing
  • Evaluation and analysis results
  • Storage
  • Use of electronic workflows
  • Qualification and training offer

Digital sample management

For the documentation of biosamples, Faculty VI provides the sample management software CentraXX from the company Kairos.

The PI of a research project can plan and discuss the use of CentraXX in an initial meeting with the CF Biobank Structure. Before using CentraXX for the first time, training is offered by the CF Biobank Structure.

Here is an overview of the advantages and benefits of Centraxx:

  1. The entire life cycle of a biosample - from collection to storage/retrieval can be recorded and documented
  2. Common workflows are provided, with the option to create study-specific customized workflows
  3. Generation of daily reports
  4. Traceability of data changes (audit trail)
  5. Fine-grained roles and rights principle for quality assurance
  6. Use of pseudonyms and strict data separation
  7. Documentation of any additional information on biosamples

Processing of biosamples

Samples are processed in close cooperation with the University Institute for Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Science under the direction of Prof. Dr. med. Dipl. Biol. Astrid Petersmann.

Both tissue and liquid samples can be stored. In addition to study-specific storage, the preservation of residual material from clinical care is also possible within the framework of Broad Informed Consent( BIC). (based on the sample text Patient Consent Version 1.7.2 of the Medical Informatics Initiative)

Biobanking is carried out either manually by the technical staff of the CF biobank structure or fully automatically via the TECAN pipetting robot. The aliquots or tissue samples are stored in barcoded and 2D-coded sample containers.

To ensure high sample quality, employees receive regular training and work according to standard operating procedures(SOP).

Storage, preparation and retrieval of biosamples

The CF biobank structure provides the following storage options:

  • Ultra-freezing -80°C
  • Deep freezing -20°C
  • Cooling 2-4°C

Special safety precautions are in place to ensure the protection of biosamples and occupational safety:

  • Entry, access and access control
  • Centralized , automated temperature monitoring of all freezing and cooling systems
  • Automatically readable container coding
  • Training of users and their acceptance of the storage and CentraXX rules
