Informations for parents and caregivers
Dear parents and caregivers,
on the following page, we have provided some information about the EuLe-F project for you. We hope you enjoy reading it!
If you have any questions about ElternEuLe or are interested in implementing the program, please feel free to contact us at any time!
In order to capture the emergent literacy skills of children in the age range of four to seven years and to support them in the best possible way, we are developing a tablet-based assessment app (EuLeAPP©) with integrated support offers as part of the EuLe-F project.
Why is it important that my child's early storytelling and reading skills are already supported in preschool?
A child's enrollment in school is not the zero hour of literacy acquisition. Interest in books, writing and letters is present in children long before they enter school. These preparatory skills play an important role in the child's future academic performance and social-emotional development.
What is the ElternEuLe?
ElternEuLe (Elternbasierte Förderung früher Erzähl- und Lesekompetenzen) is a programme aimed at parents and caregivers of 4-6 year old children. A total of eight events provide information and suggestions on how to promote children's early literacy skills in everyday life. Parents can exchange ideas with each other at these events and simple support materials are produced for use at home. The focus is on enjoyment and playful interaction with literary content.
Events organised by ElternEuLe
The ElternEuLe programme comprises a total of eight events focusing on different aspects of early literacy promotion. An excursion is offered on one date, for example a guided tour of a local library in simple language, a literary walk or a picnic with a picture book cinema.
The eight "ElternEuLe" events are organised together, but can also be implemented individually, e.g. as part of a project week or a parents' evening. In addition, the scope of the ElternEuLe meetings can be adapted depending on the possibilities and circumstances of the respective daycare centre. The diagram below provides an overview of the event concept.
Procedure and structure of the events
The combination of the "EuLe-F" project and the "ElternEuLe" offer three event elements together.
The children's time is realised through the "EuLe-F" project. Here, the children receive early literacy support integrated into everyday life by the educational staff in the daycare centre, independently of their parents. The adaptive support concept is implemented as part of the "EuLe-F" project.
Parental leave and family time take place through the ElternEuLe programme. The meetings start with parental leave (approx. 45-60 minutes). At the end of parental leave, the children join in (approx. 15-20 minutes). During this family time, an early literacy activity takes place together.
The "ElternEuLe" programme can be implemented for groups of around 5-15 participants. The eight events are planned to take place every two weeks over a period of approx. 4 months.
Material
An implementation manual is available for the ElternEuLe programme. It describes in detail the specific implementation, materials required, time needed and goals in order to facilitate the implementation of the parent-based support programme. In addition to the manual, "ElternEuLe" also contains material that can be used directly in the parent meetings or given to parents to take home.
The material includes the following for each event
- information in simple language
- Support games
- Task(s) for the parents
For some events, the material also includes
- diagrams to convey information
- Additional further information for interested parties
- handicraft templates or picture templates
