Hardship provision at the Institute of Sport Science

2 subject Bachelor, Master of Education and Master of Arts

Under certain circumstances (see below), you can submit a hardship application prior to enrolment in the courses of an upcoming semester. If your well-founded proposal is approved and accompanied by appropriate evidence, you may be offered a place on your chosen course(s). Depending on the semester in question, please submit your hardship application within the time window specified below exclusively via the application form then activated on this homepage (appears via Contact). Please note the following information on the hardship provision and the application procedure. If you have any further questions on the subject of "hardship cases", please send an email to the following address: Please note that this mailbox is only used during the application period.

Criteria and proof for a case of hardship

  1. Serious long-term illness or injury. Proof: e.g. current medical certificate stating the duration of the illness/injury
  2. Caring for a child up to the age of 14 in your own household. Proof: e.g. birth certificate of the youngest child
  3. Caring for close relatives (parents, parents-in-law, spouse, partner, siblings or children). Proof: e.g. certificate from the health insurance company about the care and the expenses to be incurred
  4. Students of a co-operation subject at the University of Bremen. Proof: e.g. enrolment certificate
  5. Students who are in the 8th or higher semester and who are still missing a maximum of two practical courses for the Bachelor's degree. All other courses have already been completed and passed. Proof: Certificate of grades from the Examinations Office
  6. Students who are in the 7th or higher semester and who, despite having completed a sufficient number of CP, are still missing a maximum of two practical courses for the completion of the basic curriculum (athletics or gymnastics / sports games) and thus for the registration for the Bachelor's thesis. Proof: Certificate of grades from the Examinations Office

Application periods (for the following semester)

  • Summer semester: 10.01. - 20.01.
  • Winter semester: 10.08. - 20.08.

Important notes on the application process

  • Please be sure to attach a (!) file with the scanned or photographed proof(s) (see above) to your hardship application created online using the application form. The evidence submitted will, of course, be treated confidentially and destroyed immediately upon receipt.
  • Please ensure that your proposal is complete! Incomplete proposals (e.g. missing information, no supporting documents) will not be processed and will be rejected without further examination.
  • Only hardship applications that are submitted within the above-mentioned time periods via the online application form will be processed. Proposals sent, for example, by email to the Office or teaching staff at the Institute of Sport Science will expressly not be processed.
  • The time of submission of the proposal within the above-mentioned time windows is irrelevant with regard to the decision on your proposal. The decision will be made exclusively on the basis of content-related criteria and not depending on the chronological order of the proposals received.

Finally, please also note the following:

  • Hardship applications are not intended to shorten the standard period of study or to construct a desired degree programme. A proposal can include a maximum of 2 courses from the area of practice and/or 2 courses from the area of theory. It is necessary to name the seminar(s) applied for (Stud.IP event number).
  • The decision to start a second or extension degree programme does not justify preferential admission to seminars.
  • An announced end of studies at a self-defined time does not justify a hardship application
  • An academic appointment is not considered a case of hardship. For options to change from a full-time to a part-time study programme, please refer to your examination regulations or https://uol.de/studium/studierendenstatus/
  • A long journey to the university is also not considered a case of hardship.
  • There is no general entitlement to consideration of a hardship application; it depends, among other things, on the available capacities in the courses.
