With Rainer Buchwald's retirement in October 2023, the Vegetation Science and Nature Conservation working group has officially disbanded.
However, Rainer Buchwald is still active in many areas.

In the LIFE project "Atlantic Sand Landscapes"(https://www.sandlandschaften.de/de/index.html), measures were implemented to improve the Silbersee (Cuxhaven district). An information film was produced about this. It shows the work of Rainer Buchwald and his team. The film focuses on the conservation and revitalisation of curlew stocks and the plant communities of oligiotrophic waters.
