"Learning through research": Research workshop of Luxembourg women composers
"Learning through research": Research workshop of Luxembourg women composers
Head: Prof Dr Melanie Unseld
Duration: 2009 - 2012
Funding: FK III, Mariann Steegmann Foundation, Cid femme Luxembourg
The basic idea is to link musicological gender research much more closely to teaching so that students can familiarise themselves with and practise opportunities for early participation in research projects and independent research.
More information
The estates of the Luxembourgish composers Lou Koster and Helen Buchholtz are available to the young researchers in order to explore questions relating to the handling of composers' estates using concrete material and, above all, to delve deeper into questions of gender and analysis, marginalisation and composing in a "marginal" music-historical location. The research workshop comprised a preparatory phase, two seminars (including a student symposium, guest lectures from Luxembourg and an excursion to Luxembourg). Two master's theses (Oliver Retz and Kerstin Schäffer) emerged from the seminar topics, in close co-operation with the archive of the Cid femme; the conception and realisation of a symposium in Luxembourg (2012) is currently in preparation. This project took part in the presentation "Forschendes Lernen", Nov. 2010 at the Universities of Oldenburg and Bremen(poster).
