Christoph Niepel studied in Trier and Amiens (France) and obtained his PhD in psychology from the University of Trier. Most recently, he worked as a research scientist at the University of Luxembourg. Research stays took him to the Educational Testing Service (Princeton, USA), the Australian Catholic University (Sydney, Australia) and the University of Oslo (Norway).
In his research, Christoph Niepel focuses in particular on motivation and the experience of competence in teaching and learning contexts, as well as on the perception of teaching quality. He employs empirical-quantitative methods and research approaches. A particular focus is on the analysis of micro-longitudinal data with numerous measurement points, collected in real time and in specific classroom situations, in order to analyse teaching and learning experiences from one lesson to the next (experience-sampling method). As a project leader, Christoph Niepel has secured third-party funding of over 1.3 million euros for his research.
We warmly welcome Prof. Dr Christoph Niepel to the Institute!
