Mentoring programme
The mentoring programme of the Institute of Chemistry is a study-accompanying (= voluntary) programme in which the professors accompany, supervise and advise a group of students as personal mentors.
The aim of the individual meetings is to give students an understanding of university processes and the structure of the curriculum and to strengthen their motivation for successful study. Mentors provide advice and support, share their own experience and are confidential contacts for their mentees. They offer support, particularly in the initial phase of the degree programme and the transition from school to university, but are also there for their mentees throughout their time at university.
Through the exchange, both sides (mentors and mentees) canlearn from each other.
The mentoring programme is coordinated and organised by the Institute's office. The contact person for the mentoring programme is Iva Bačić.
For the mentees
- Arriving well at the University, the Institute and in the programme;
- Successful studies and satisfaction in and with the degree programme;
- increased motivation to study and understanding of the processes at the University, the Institute and the degree programme;
- understand the subject and learn it correctly;
- find your own place in the degree programme and subject: develop and expand your professional and personal skills.
Any active professor can fill the mentoring programme with content and life and supervise a small group of first-semester students as a mentor.
- The students are assigned to the mentors; the mentors receive a list before the first introductory meeting.
- The students receive the contact details of their mentor and an invitation to the first meeting in the mentoring programme in the O-week at the latest.
- The first meeting for mentors and mentees takes place in the first week of lectures.

- to use "easy language": Specialised language develops during the course of study;
- to use inclusive language;
- to give the meetings a consultative character.
Schedule (example)
The schedule described in the flyer represents a possible implementation of the mentoring programme. This schedule is intended to serve as an example: The individual meetings, topics and dates are defined and organised by the mentor depending on the group dynamics, needs, etc.
Mentoring programme in the winter semester 2023/2024
Potential mentors in the mentoring programme in the winter semester 2023/2024 have received a personal letter about the mentoring programme. This letter contains information forwarded to the Institute by the Admissions office (as at 22/09/2023):
- Number of first-semester students;
- possible mentoring groups (with the number of students in a group and details of the selected study programme)
- the number of mentors required and information on potential professors/mentors in the winter semester 2023/2024;
- a possible schedule for the mentoring programme in the winter semester 2023/2024.
