Oldenburg Hospital
Everything under one roof: Klinikum Oldenburg is home to 27 different specialities in 28 clinics and institutes, whose close proximity ensures fast and comprehensive treatment. With 832 beds, it is the largest acute hospital in the Weser-Ems region. Over 3,000 employees care for almost 150,000 patients every year - from premature babies to the very elderly.
In addition to providing medical care, the hospital supports people in the region with counselling and events to help them stay healthy and get well. Last but not least, the hospital is one of the largest training centres in the region.
Evangelical Hospital Oldenburg
The Protestant Hospital offers three main areas of care. The University Clinics for Neurosurgery and Neurology cover the entire spectrum of neurological and neurosurgical diseases in interdisciplinary cooperation with the Institute for Radiology and Neuroradiology, the Clinic for Internal Medicine, the Clinic for Anaesthesiology and the Clinic for Interdisciplinary Intensive Care Medicine. The Evangelical Hospital also has a certified "supra-regional stroke unit". The close interdisciplinary integration of these clinics together with the Clinic for Trauma Surgery, Orthopaedics and Sports Traumatology enables the second focus of care as a certified "supra-regional trauma centre", which is also admitted to the German Social Accident Insurance Institutions' serious injury procedure (SAV). This makes the Evangelical Hospital one of only nine clinics in Lower Saxony with unrestricted admission to treat severely injured patients.
Karl Jaspers Clinic
The Karl Jaspers Clinic is one of the largest hospitals for psychiatry, psychotherapy and psychosomatics in Lower Saxony. In addition to the comprehensive range of services offered by a maximum care provider, the hospital is characterised by its location in the countryside.
The full inpatient area comprises 611 beds spread over 32 wards, plus 84 day clinic treatment places. The specialist diversity extends across the medical services of the University Clinic for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy, the Clinics for General Psychiatry, Addiction Medicine, Geriatric Psychiatry, Forensic Psychiatry and the Clinic for Psychosomatic Medicine. The range of services is complemented by a variety of outpatient programmes.
With our specialist departments and specialists, we provide care for a catchment area of around 1,000,000 people. Every year, we treat around 20,000 patients, of which around 12,600 are outpatients and 7,000 are inpatients.
Pius Hospital Oldenburg
With a total of 1,350 employees, we at Pius Hospital look after the health of our patients from Oldenburg and the entire Weser-Ems region. Using state-of-the-art medical technology for diagnostics and therapy, we offer the best possible treatment at the cutting edge of science in twelve clinics, institutes and specialist departments. We offer a broad and deep range of services with a focus on oncology, gynaecology, pneumology, thoracic and vascular surgery, visceral surgery, ophthalmology and endoprosthetics. As the largest Catholic hospital in the north-west with 420 beds, we treat outpatients and inpatients with a total of 76,000 treatment cases per year. With our six university clinics, we are also involved in research and teaching as part of the University of Oldenburg's medical campus. Among other things, we develop and test medical innovations and ensure that patients can benefit from new scientific findings as quickly as possible.
Department of General Medicine
The Department of General Practice is responsible for teaching general practice as part of the degree programmes in Medicine and Health Services Research at the University of Oldenburg. In addition to the teaching modules on the Medical Campus, this also includes clinical shadowing, the block lab course and the final year clinical rotation within the network of teaching GP practices.
For us, the individual is at the heart of everything we do – whether in the training of our students or in our research activities. We place great emphasis on practice-oriented teaching that harmoniously combines theoretical knowledge with practical skills. Our students benefit from an interdisciplinary approach and close collaboration with our network of teaching and research practices.
Alumni network
The alumni network was launched in autumn 2019 with the aim of promoting exchange between alumni, students and the School V - School of Medicine and Health Sciences. We are currently building up our services and expanding the network step by step.
Alumni benefit from our special programmes for former students. For example, our alumni events are always a good opportunity to meet former fellow students or lecturers and to pay Oldenburg a visit again.

Dean of Studies
The model degree programme in Human Medicine pursues innovative approaches in the training of medical students and already realises many important goals of the Master Plan 2020 and the National Competence-Based Catalogue of Learning Objectives 2.0, such as competence-oriented training, patient-centredness, doctor-patient communication, vertical and horizontal integration, teaching scientific practice, strengthening general medicine and interprofessional teaching. At the same time, the aim is to promote European co-operation in medical education through the co-operation with Groningen.
Scientific career promotion
The School V - School of Medicine and Health Sciences supports students interested in science at all stages of their basic or clinical training. Students with an interest in science are given the opportunity to gain an insight into research and gain initial experience early on in their studies. Structured support programmes and career opportunities enable scientists to progress from doctoral studies to academic appointment as a chair.
Friends and Sponsors of the University Medicine Northwest e.V.
With the founding of the "Verein der Freunde und Förderer der Universitätsmedizin Nordwest e. V." in December 2009, the region documented its willingness to support a medical School at the University of Oldenburg. The planned degree programme in co-operation with the renowned Rijksuniversiteit Groningen (Netherlands) was a novelty: for the first time, doctors were to be trained on a binational basis across borders. Following a unanimous vote by the Lower Saxony state parliament and confirmation of the innovative approach by the German Council of Science and Humanities, the School began its work in 2012. Until then, the north-west was the only region in Germany without a medical-scientific institution within a radius of 160 kilometres.
The association has set itself the goal of promoting medical research and teaching as well as professional training and thus supporting the development of the public health system. It also aims to promote the exchange of opinions and experiences between universities and clinics as well as between degree programmes and key players in the region.In order to achieve these goals, the association, which is recognised as a non-profit organisation, solicits donations. In the past, it has already been able to support numerous projects at the School. Prizes have been awarded for outstanding doctorates and remarkable scientific publications. School events have also been supported.
