The categorisation of the learning areas of German lessons now has a long tradition dating back to the 1970s and is now handed down in particular through the educational standards issued by the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the Länder; in the core curricula or syllabuses of the individual Federal States, it is structured with reference to the individual school types and year groups.
