Interreg HEALTH4DE-NL
Health without borders - but with hurdles
The German-Dutch border region is a closely interwoven living and working area. Nevertheless, citizens often encounter hurdles in everyday life when they want to utilise healthcare services across the border. Differences in healthcare systems, legal regulations, language and organisation can make access to care more difficult and lead to inequalities in healthcare. At the same time, the border region offers great potential for better, shared use of resources and expertise.
Project leader: Adriana Pérez Fortis
Project duration: 01.04.2025 - 31.03.2029
Funding programme: Interreg VI Germany-Nederland
Financing: European Regional Development Fund (ERDF)
Specifically, the project objectives are:
- The strategic networking of actors in the healthcare system, in particular decision-makers, health insurers, hospitals, researchers, healthcare staff and citizens.
- Systematically analyse healthcare systems to create a framework for equitable access to healthcare.
- Strengthen the resilience of healthcare systems in a sustainable way by networking healthcare authorities.
- Develop events to strengthen public engagement in promoting the transition from institutional to family and community-based care.
At the end of the project, we will have established a sustainable network and interlinked initiatives and will present an overview of the strengths and challenges of health systems in the border region. We will produce evidence-based recommendations that can be translated into health policy reforms. We will have empowered citizens in the border region to take an active role in their own healthcare.
Our goal: more sustainable, fairer and better coordinated healthcare in the German-Dutch border region through scientific findings and stronger co-operation.
