Description of the location

The Institute of Biology and Environmental Sciences (IBU) at the University of Oldenburg provides training in the subjects of Biology and Environmental Sciences and Landscape Ecology. The individual working groups carry out numerous, mostly interdisciplinary projects, the contents of which are important for basic research, but also for applied nature conservation and environmental protection.

The aquatic ecology and nature conservation working group is currently focussing on aquatic and semi-aquatic systems, e.g. watercourses, moors, marshes and floodplains. We are currently conducting various studies on the biology of mosquitoes and midges and are working with different focal points in headwaters and floodplains of the North German lowlands.

What tasks await you?

The main focus of the FÖJ's work at IBU is to participate in the planning and implementation of aquatic ecology projects. This is done in cooperation with project staff and students, Bachelor's and Master's students and doctoral candidates in our working group. FÖJ employees could be involved in the following fields of work in particular:

** Mapping of flora and fauna in study areas,
** Preparation and implementation of measurements and experiments in the laboratory and in the field,
** Preparation of excursions and other events (incl. conferences)
** Participation in the conception and implementation of nature conservation measures,
** Preparation of information material,
** Evaluation of data from experimental series, sampling and mapping,
** Maintenance of a literature database and literature research if necessary.

It would also be desirable to carry out a small project on your own responsibility, possibly in co-operation with other Institutes or nature conservation associations.

What is the environment like at the place of work?

The centre is the Aquatic Ecology and Nature Conservation working group at the Institute of Biology and Environmental Sciences at the University of Oldenburg. Work rooms and laboratories are available there. The employee is integrated into a motivated and friendly team of scientists, employees, doctoral candidates, interns and students. There are numerous cultural activities on offer at the university and in the city of Oldenburg.

What else is important?

A driving licence is desirable, but not essential.
