As part of the "Strategically Developing Potential" programme, the largest funding initiative in the history of the state of Lower Saxony, the University of Oldenburg will receive a total of 22.5 million euros in funding until 2030. Of this 22.5 million euros, almost 4 million euros are earmarked for the further internationalisation of the university, in particular for the further expansion of cooperation with the University of Groningen.

Over the next five years, new networks will bring researchers from both universities even closer together - be it through conferences, mutual faculty visits or online events. In future, around 15 researchers per year will be able to spend up to four months researching at the respective partner university. Another programme will enable one doctoral candidate per year and School to do their doctorate at both universities at the same time. Similar to a comparable institution in Groningen, the "Oldenburg Young Academy" is to be established to support talented academics at an early stage of their careers. The University of Oldenburg is also planning a conference for student research to which it will invite Dutch students to Oldenburg.

In the area of university management, jointly organised thematic workshops and shorter working visits as part of a shadowing programme at the other partner university offer administrative staff a forum for networking with their colleagues at administrative level on issues relating to internationalisation in research, teaching and transfer.
