Successful path to your thesis with MIO:

Information about your thesis with MIO

Dear final-year students studying Marketing as a subject,

Here are the steps to securing supervision for your final-year dissertation at MIO:

  1. Apply within the deadlines (you can find the deadlines and further information, such as a general timetable, here), including a personal statement (approx. one page) and a transcript of marks, to . The deadlines and timetable must be adhered to; there is no provision for late applications or other deviations. This binding framework is intended to ensure that supervision can proceed in a consistent and synchronised manner each semester.
  2. Acceptance or rejection by the chair: Unfortunately, we are generally unable to supervise all interested students. It is therefore advisable to apply to several chairs.
  3. Acceptance or rejection of the supervision offer: If you have been offered a place, we ask that you accept or decline promptly. If you do not wish to take up your place, it is helpful if we are informed at an early stage so that we can offer the place to other interested students.
  4. Topic allocation: Once you have accepted the supervision offer, you will receive a list of topics from us. You can then either choose one of our topics or propose your own (you submit a one-page proposal outlining your topic, which we will then review and discuss with you). If several students choose the same topic from the list, the decision will be made by drawing lots. You must therefore be sure to include your second and third choices. The topics should be seen as guidelines within which you will develop your research questions together with your primary supervisors.
  5. Allocation of primary supervisor and topic: Once you have submitted your topic preferences, you will be allocated your final topic and your primary supervisor.

The topics on the list are based on our team’s research focuses. Any suggestions you make should also relate to our research topics. Our topics are:

  • Higher education marketing
  • Employer branding
  • Science communication and political marketing
  • Political branding
  • Artificial intelligence in sales
  • Industrial Solution Selling

If you have any questions about the process, please contact . For questions regarding content, such as topic suggestions or areas of focus, please contact Jonas Schulz ().

We look forward to receiving your applications!

Best regards, the MIO team
