Successful path to your thesis with MIO:

Information about your thesis with MIO

Dear candidates for a degree in the subject of marketing,

these are the steps to a thesis supervision at MIO:

  1. Apply within the deadlines (the deadlines and further information, such as a general schedule, can be found here) including a letter of motivation (approx. one page) and transcript of records to . The deadlines and timetable must be adhered to; there is no provision for lateral entries or other deviations. This binding orientation is intended to ensure that supervision is uniform and synchronised each semester.
  2. Acceptance or cancellation of the chair: Unfortunately, we are generally unable to supervise all interested students. It is therefore advisable to apply to several chairs. If you have received a rejection from us, we or the Student Advisory Service () will be happy to advise you in your search for alternatives.
  3. Acceptance or rejection of the supervision offer: If you have received an offer of a place, please accept or reject it as soon as possible. If you do not wish to take up your place, it is a good idea to let us know in good time so that we can let other interested parties move up.
  4. Topic allocation: Once you have accepted the supervision offer, you will receive a list of topics from us. You can then either choose one of our topics or submit a topic of your own (you submit a topic proposal formulated on one page, which we will then check and discuss with you). If topics from the list of topics are chosen by several students, the decision is made by lot. It is therefore essential that you also indicate second and third preferences. The topics are to be understood as guidelines within which you develop your questions with your first supervisor.
  5. Assignment of first supervisor and topic: After you have sent your topic preferences, you will be assigned your final topic and your first supervisor.

The topics on the list are based on the research focus of our team. Your own suggestions should also relate to our research topics. Our topics are

  • University marketing
  • Employer branding
  • Science communication and political marketing
  • Political branding
  • Artificial intelligence in sales
  • Industrial Solution Selling

If you have any questions about the programme, please contact . If you have any questions about proposed topics or work priorities, please contact Jonas Schulz.

We look forward to receiving your applications!

Best regards from the MIO team
