Why do we sort out clothes? Why do we love certain items more than others? Where do my clothes end up after I put them in an old clothes container? And what is a textile tentacle? These and many other questions are answered by the exhibition "Aussortiert!", which can be seen at the Hafenmuseum Bremen from 17 May to 15 June 2025.
In four exhibition areas, the exhibition uses clothes, shoes, bags and underwear to show what happens to our clothes after they leave the wardrobe. Starting with the process of sorting out, various possibilities are shown as to where clothes could go. Does it end up in our personal environment or at a market in Ghana? Will it perhaps be resold online or in a second-hand shop? The interactive and participatory design of the exhibition invites visitors to sort out their own clothes and reflect on how they use them.
The exhibition was curated by seven students from the 2023 intake of the Museum and Exhibition Master's programme, who have dealt intensively with curatorial processes as part of their studies - from finding a theme to developing the concept and designing the exhibition. The project was supervised by Svenja Jessen (first examiner) and Dr Klara von Lindern (second examiner) from the Institute of Material Culture at the University of Oldenburg.
